If you always wondered how to crossbreed your dogs in Last Day On Earth then this is the guide which is going to teach you everything about it. In this post we are going to tell you everything you need to know about breeding dogs in the game. So let’s check it out!
Why Should You Breed Dogs In Last Day On Earth
The first thing you need to know is, why should you actually breed your dogs? Well, the main reason you should breed them is because it gives you a chance of getting a higher rank dog which will have one more trait than its parents. Dogs can have up to 4 ranks and higher rank dogs can have more rare traits. Your ultimate goal is to get a Rank 4 dog with “True Friend” trait through this process, so that you can take him wherever you want.
What Are The Requirements For Breeding Dogs
Before you could breed dogs, there are two necessary requirements which your dogs must fulfill. Otherwise you won’t be able to breed them. Below you can learn about both these requirements.
1. Male and Female Dogs Needed – Just like in real life, you need a male and a female dog to crossbreed them. This is one of the main things that could stop players from breeding dogs because right now there are many players who just keep getting male dogs while others keep getting just female dogs. For more information on this topic please check out Is It Possible To Change The Gender of Dogs In Last Day On Earth?
2. Dogs Should Be of Same Rank – As mentioned earlier, there are 4 ranks of dogs and you can only crossbreed between dogs of the same rank. So you can’t crossbreed a rank 1 dog with a rank 2 dog and so on.
How To Breed Your Dogs
Once you have fulfilled the above 2 requirements, its quite simple to breed your dogs. You just need to go to the breeding region inside your dog crate and choose the male dog from the left column and a female dog from the right column. This will display all the information about both dogs so that you could check it before crossbreeding them.
After you are sure that you have chosen the right dogs, just tap on the “Crossbreed” button and you will get a new puppy! Yes, you won’t get a grown up dog. you will get a puppy whom you need to feed for 24 hours to grow him up into an adult dog.
What Does The “Inherit Traits” Option Do?
After you select a dog for breeding, you will find an option called “Inherit Traits”. This is a really useful option and you might need to check or uncheck it depending upon your needs. What this option does is it retains the traits of the parents on the new upcoming puppy. Normally the new puppy gets random traits but if you check this option then the upcoming puppy will have exactly the same traits like its parent. This option is useful when you are breeding a dog who has really useful traits and you don’t want to lose those traits, so you just need to check this option before breeding and your new puppy will have the same traits like its parents. Hence you will get a higher rank dog while retaining the same useful traits!

Few More Things You Should Know
1. The new puppy might not necessarily have a higher rank than its parents – Remember that you are not guaranteed to get a higher rank dog every time you crossbreed. You can get a puppy with same rank (thus a waste of your 2 parent dogs) or it can also have a higher rank. Check the table below to know how rankings work!
- Breeding 2 Rank 1 Dogs = You can get a Rank 2 Dog or a Rank 1 Dog
- Breeding 2 Rank 2 Dogs = You can get a Rank 3 Dog or a Rank 2 Dog
- Breeding 2 Rank 3 Dogs = You can get a Rank 4 Dog or a Rank 3 Dog
- Breeding 2 Rank 4 Dogs = You will get a Rank 4 Dog
In order to increase your chances of getting a higher rank dog, you can activate “Witty” trait dog (if you have it) or use dry foods in the feeder before breeding.
2. New Puppy Can Have Better Or Worse traits – As mentioned earlier, the upcoming puppy normally gets new random traits on him, which could be better or worse than the parents. Hence breeding doesn’t necessarily gives you better traits.
3. Parent Dogs Will Disappear – After crossbreeding, both the parent dogs will disappear and you will get a new puppy. So you will lose 2 adult dogs and get 1 new puppy in the process.

Awesome guide! I hope you can consider the following suggestions below to improve the content:
1. How Rank affects Trait inheritence: Based on the Traits section in http://last-day-on-earth-survival.wikia.com/wiki/Dog The 9 traits were categorized based on the Dog’s Rank. This can be understood two ways:
A) Some traits are only available to certain ranks. So for example, Bloodhound is only showing in Rank II so, if you crossbreed to Rank III with a parent with Bloodhound and choose to inherit it, you won’t retain it.
B) Some traits are only available starting from a certain rank. So for example, Witty can only be first obtained upon successfully breeding a Rank III dog, w/hich can still be obtained with a Rank IV dog, either as inherited or as a random (no inheritance checked from both male and female parent).
Can you confirm this? — This would lead to “real” and relevant topic for this specific article:
2. Trait Slots and Crossbreeding – how does this work when inheriting. Which of these:
a. When inheriting and successfully upgrading, all traits from the selected parent will be passed on to the new and higher rank puppy. Then the “additional” trait will be random.
Example 1: Scenario: Rank III dogs successfully crossbred to Rank IV / Traits to be inherited: Well-stocked, Leader, Bloodhound —– New Rank IV will automatically have Well-stocked, Leader, Bloodhound because you chose Inherit Traits. Then the 4th trait will be random.
Example 2: Different scenario but same sample traits as first example: Rank III dogs crossbred resulted in same rank. — New Rank III puppy will have Well-stocked, Leader and Bloodhound, with random %multipliers assigned to each, so can be better or worse % assigned to each retained trait.
===========
I find this important information because if I am crossbreeding using Example 1 above, it would mean, I only have 1 out of the 4 possible chances to have the True Friend. Will it be worth not inheriting traits so that I can have all 4 possible chances per trait slot for the random trait assignment?
Can you give more information on this?
