You need to first prepare your generator before you could place it at the northern watchtower. For that you need to follow the steps mentioned below.

1. The first step is to obviously craft a generator from the Blueprints screen by collecting 10 iron plates, 15 bolts, 5 aluminium bars and 5 wrenches.

2. After crafting it, you need to place it on the ground for finalizing it by again collecting other required resources.

Now your generator is ready to be installed. Just pick it up and place it at the back of your finalized chopper. The next step is to go to the northern watchtower with your chopper.

Use a crowbar to open the gate there and kill the zombies inside the area. After you have beaten all the zombies, pick up the electric generator from your chopper and drop it at the base of the giant watch tower. As soon as you place the generator, a large group of fast biters will attack you so be prepared for it!

After killing all those zombies, just zone out to arrive on your global map and you will see the new winter and oak locations unlocked for you.
