For those who don’t yet know, let me first tell you what challenger bonus really is. It’s a mysterious feature which rewards you with 4 or 8 additional trophies after a match. So if you win a match while becoming an MVP and also getting challenger bonus then you will get total 8+2+4 = 14 trophies which is amazing. That’s why everyone wants to get challenger bonus because it greatly contributes to your glory level.
It’s also interesting to know that you have a chance to get challenger bonus even if you lose a match. Yes, it might be surprising to know but it’s actually possible. In the image below you can see i got +8 trophies as challenger bonus even though i lost that match.
I also called it a mysterious feature because nobody really seems to know exactly how it works and what you need to do to get it. Well i knew that the only way to know the perfect and correct answer is to ask directly from those who have created this game. So i contacted T3 Arena support team and asked them about how does challenger bonus work and how can we get it more often. They replied that if your number of trophies is 200+ lower than the local average number of trophies, the challenger bonus will be triggered. Below you can see the screenshot of their official reply.
I was a little confused about exactly what they meant by “local average number of trophies” so in order to clear my doubt i asked them again using an example. This time i got the confirmation that the case mentioned in my example is completely right and also clearly explains how challenger bonus works.
So according to my example (which was confirmed correct by official support team) if the average of all 3 members of your team’s trophies is about 200 less than the average of all 3 opponent players’ trophies then you have the chance to get challenger bonus. Below is the screenshot of this conversation with support team.
After a match you are only able to see the number of trophies of that specific hero used by your opponent and NOT the total number of trophies that player has in his account. This is the reason everyone couldn’t find out exactly what condition triggered the challenger bonus.
Also since now it’s confirmed that it totally depends upon which players you are matched with and against, it’s also clear that we can’t do anything ourselves to increase the chances of getting challenger bonus. It all depends upon matchmaking which is out of control of the players.
The only thing you can do is to increase the glory level of your heroes, or play with heroes with at least Glory Level 10 or higher. Because it seems like when your glory level is lower you are mostly matched with bot players while as you reach higher glory levels you will be matched against real players. This is probably the reason you get challenger bonus more often when you play using heroes with really high glory levels.
