How To Ascend In Viking Rise
Ascension is quite a straightforward process in Viking Rise. In order to ascend hero and ultimately unlock a new Talent, you need to have his shards. As you know that there are various heroes available in the game and each hero his his/her own shard. If you want to ascend a hero then you first need to obtain his shards using different ways available in the game.
However, even after collecting enough shards of a hero, you might still be unable to ascend him/her. The reason is because the game doesn’t provides you any tutorial on exactly how to ascend a hero using his shards. When you select any Hero Shard at your Item screen in order to use it, you might get confused because it doesn’t shows any “Use” button. This makes you wonder, how to use it?
The first thing you need to know about Hero Shards is that they are a multi purpose item and can actually be used for two purposes in the game. The first thing you can use them is for unlocking a new hero. As soon as you collect 10 shards of a rare hero or 15 shards of an epic or legendary hero, you will be able to unlock him/her by visiting the “Hero” screen. It can obviously only be done once for each hero.
The second use of Hero Shards is the one you are reading this post for, i.e. for ascending a hero. A really important thing you need to know is that you can’t directly use hero shards from “Item” screen. In order to use them for ascending a hero you first need to open “Hero” screen by tapping on gladiator head button at bottom right side of screen.
After arriving at Hero screen you need to tap on “Details” button in front of the hero whom you want to ascend. You will now be able to see more details of that hero. At the same screen you can find some stars just underneath the level stat. You will also find a “+” button in front of the stars. Just tap on this “+” button to open the “Ascend” screen of the hero.
When you arrive at “Ascend” screen of a hero you will notice that “Ascend” but is not active. The reason is because you haven’t yet upgraded the level of the current talent to level 5. So just tap on “+” button just above the “Ascend” button to be able to upgrade that talent using shards of that hero. Note that you first need to level up a hero to level 10 before you could upgrade his/her talents.
Once you have upgraded the talent to level 5, the Ascend button will become active. Now just tap on Ascend button to successfully ascend the hero and add one more star to him. With this you will also unlock his next Talent. Just keep leveling up talents using hero shards in the same way to ascend your hero all the way to 6 stars.

1. The first and the most basic way to get hero shards is from Hall of Valor. Here you can summon heroes or obtain their shards using Oracle Soulstone. You can get 1 Oracle Soulstone every day for free from Hall of Valor itself. You can always buy more of them using gems.
2. You can also get Epic Hero Shards from “Challenge” quality bounties at Staging Post. These shards don’t belong to any specific hero, instead they can be exchanged into shards of any epic heroes of your choice, which is really great. If you don’t see Challenge quality bounties then make sure to increase your Prestige level.
3. Clan Merchant is another great way to obtain shards of specific heroes. She can be accessed after building Honey Tavern at your City. The Clan Shop refreshes periodically to provide you new hero shards to choose from.
4. Prosperity Merchant is another merchant whom you can access using Honey Tavern at your city. He sells a variety of items including Rare Hero Shard, Epic Hero Shard and even Legendary Hero Shard.
5. The last but not the least way to get hero shards is by participating in Events. You can always find multiple events running in the game and they are the greatest source of getting all items in the game, including hero shards.
