There are four types of troops and each of them include different rarities of soldiers known as Classes. By upgrading your troops you can make your squad a lot stronger so that you could unlock new villages, beat high level Niflungs as well as beat other strong players on the map. There are also a lot of players who have no idea about increasing their troop capacity. Viking Rise Troops Guide
Just like any other similar game, troop is your army in the game which consists of various types of fighters. You need this troop when you want to capture or unlock a new village in the game. Villages are guarded by enemy troops and in order to free those villages you need to defeat the enemy troops there. The difficulty of enemy troops keep increasing as you unlock more villages therefore it’s important to keep upgrading your troops into new high tier soldiers.
Not only this but you also need a strong troop for defeating higher level Niflung and other monsters (who unlock later) on the map. You can obtain a variety of items by defeating Niflung which includes Gems, Thorny Spike, Gathering Boost, Speedups, Shield, Random Relocator, Recovery Potion and more. Below you can find the list of troops together with all classes included in each of them.
Infantry Barracks – Infantry, Axe Fighter, Axe Brawler, Axe Warrior, Berserker, Bruiser, Warring Guard
Archer Barracks – Bowman, Bow Ranger, Bow Slinger, Bow Hunter, Marksman, Sniper, Glory Sharpshooter
Pikemen Barracks – Pikemen, Lancers, Toughened Lancer, Armored Lancers, Heavy Lancers, Elite Lancer, Blessed Lancers
Porter Barracks – Grunts, Porters, Hauler, Scavengers, Marauders, Raider, Pillagers
How To Upgrade Troops In Viking Rise
As you can see above that there are so many stronger classes to include in your troop. If you have classes like Berserker, Marksman, Elite Lancers and Pillagers then beating enemies could be a piece of cake for you. So now the question comes how to upgrade troops? Since you will always be upgrading your low tier troops into higher tier troops. So you first need to unlock the higher tier troops by researching them at Academy.
On opening the Research screen of academy you will find two tabs, Economy and Military. You can find all these troop classes for researching under “Military” tab. You need to research each of them in the provided order only, you can’t research individual ones from your choice.
Once you have researched a specific class, that class of soldiers will now be unlocked on that troop’s Barrack. You can now train the new class to include them in your squad. You can keep researching and unlocking new classes in the same way to build a strong squad and dominate your enemies.

Once you have researched to unlock a new high tier troop you can now upgrade your low tier troops into this new high tier troops. For example, after unlocking Hauler, you can upgrade all your Porter troops into Haulers. To do this you first need to select Porters (as per this example) at Porter Barracks screen and then tap on grey colored upward arrow button at top left of the screen.
You will now be asked how many Porters you want to Upgrade or Promote into Haulers (you eventually need to promote all of them). Just select the maximum possible number (determined by the level of that Barrack) and tap on Promote button to upgrade all your Porters (low tier troops) into Haulers (high tier) by spending the required amount of resources.
How To Increase Troop Capacity In Viking Rise
Even if you have unlocked new classes and promoted your troops to higher tiers, the next problem is how to increase troop capacity. Whenever you form a Squad or March Queue for attacking an enemy troop or Niflung you will notice that you can include only a specific number of troops in the squad. In order to beat difficult and stronger enemies you must include more troops in the squad.
If you are wondering how to do that then let me tell you that there are two ways you can use to increase this capacity. The first way is to simply upgrade the level of the hero whom you have included in the squad. If you open any Hero’s screen you will notice a stat “Squad Capacity” there. This stat determines the number of troops you can include if you form a squad using that hero. You can include 2 heroes in a squad so the combined total Squad Capacity of both heroes is the first thing which determines the troop capacity.
In order to upgrade the level of Heroes you will need to use Hero Experience which comes in various points. You can get these Experience in points of 10, 500, 2,000, 2,500, 10,000, 20,000, 25,000 and 50,000. They can be obtained in various ways like Events and Niflung Camps. You can find and investigate these Niflung Camps by building an Eagle’s Nest and then sending eagles to uncover foggy areas on the maps. You can then tap on “Camp Report” button at bottom right corner of the screen to visit and investigate these camps.
The other way to increase Troop Capacity is to unlock and upgrade “Marching Capacity” research at Academy. It can be found under “Military” tab whose description says “Increases the maximum capacity of a single troop”. Marching Capacity I and II can be upgraded up to 5 levels while Marching Capacity III can be upgraded to 10 levels. Make sure to also focus on unlocking and upgrading these researches to increase your troop capacity even more.
