Different types of woods and ores available in the game are the most basic requirements for crafting the most advanced items and these two tools are what you need in order to gather these resources. In this post i won’t only tell you how to get Axe and Pickaxe but also how to upgrade tools into level 2 and level 3 axe or pickaxe in Undawn. So let’s check it out!
How To Craft Axe & Pickaxe In Undawn
Before you could chop down trees to obtain various types of woods or break deposits to gather different types of ores, you will need to craft respective tools. In order to cut down tress you obviously need an Axe and for breaking down deposits found in the open world you will need a Pickaxe.
Crafting both these tools is quite easy and requires the same method. In order to make Pickaxe or Axe you just need to tap on hammer button at bottom left corner to open “Craft on the go” screen. From this screen you can craft your most basic and frequently used items in the game like First Aid Kits, Antibody, Tactical Gear, Ammo Crate etc.
In order to craft an Axe or Pickaxe make sure you are on the first tab (Tool) at Craft on the Go screen. Now select either Axe or Pickaxe from the list of tools and then tap on “Craft” button to make that tool. Both these tools require just some wood and stone so they can easily be crafted whenever you need, without requiring you to farm any rare resources.
Once you have crafted the tool of your choice, just visit the region where your required type of wood or ore is found and simply start gathering resource using your crafted tools. That’s basically how to get axe or pickaxe and use them to farm required resources in Undawn.
How To Upgrade Tools In Undawn
If you check the descriptions of the Axe and Pickaxe you have just crafted then you will notice “Lv. 1” mentioned in front of them which means they are level 1 tools. If you don’t yet know then let me tell you that It is possible to upgrade tools into level 2, level 3, level 4 Axe or Pickaxe in Undawn.
You don’t actually upgrade an existing tool into the next level tool in Undawn. Instead you craft a fresh level 2 or level 3 tool using the same “Craft on the Go” screen. However if you have just started playing the game then you won’t find the option to craft level 2 and 3 Pickaxe and Axe in the list of items. This is because you first need to unlock their formula.
But before learning about how to craft upgraded tools first let’s get to know why you need these level 2 and level 3 tools in the first place. There are actually various types of woods and ores available in the game and in order to get these new rare wood and ores you need to use higher level or upgraded tools.
If you are looking for an advanced type of wood and using a level 1 Axe to chop down that tree then your chance of obtaining that advanced wood will be extremely low. You might still be able to get that rare wood using a level 1 Axe but the number of wood you get might be very less. Therefore it’s best to chop down that tree using a level 2 or level 3 Axe to get more quantity of the advanced wood.

In order to get level 2 Axe you first need to upgrade the “Logging Tool” talent. You can access it by opening the Menu, selecting the “Role” option, tapping on “Logger” role and then switching to the second tab at “Role Details” screen. Logging Tool can be found as the second talent in the list of various available talents on that screen.
By upgrading this talent you will be able to craft level 2, level 3, level 4 Axes. But note that every time you want to upgrade the talent you will need to fulfill two requirements. One of them will require you to be at specific “Logger Level” which is one of the several Roles.
In order to increase this Logger Role you will need “Resource Proficiency” points which can be obtained by chopping down trees, breaking deposits to get ore, gathering plants and hunting animals in the open world. Note that there is a daily and weekly limit on how many Resource Proficiency points you can collect.
You can check these limits by tapping on exclamation button at top left corner at Roles screen. After collecting enough points, tap on Logger role and then tap on upward arrow at top left of the screen to spend Resource Proficiency experience and increase your Logger level.
Once you reach the required Logger level you can then upgrade the Logging Tool talent to unlock higher level tools. Similarly in order to craft Level 2, 3 and 4 Pickaxe you need to upgrade “Mining Tool” talent found under “Miner” Role. That’s all you need to do in order to upgrade tools in Undawn.
After upgrading both these talents you can now open “Craft on the Go” screen again and you will find that you can now craft higher level tools. After crafting these tools make sure to open your Backpack and equip your new high level Axe or Pickaxe to replace the earlier ones.
